7 Weeks

Pregnancy Highlights

How Far Along:  7 Weeks
Size of Baby:  Blueberry (.51 inch, less than .04 oz)
Nicknames (Gma & Gpa W):  Huck (boy), Finnye (girl) [for Huckleberry Finn]
Weight Gain:  Nothing Yet
Maternity Clothes:  Have some jeans, one shirt, and some dress pants.  Seriously considering wearing them but feel a little guilty still since bub is the size of a blueberry. :)
Milestones:  Baby's brain is becoming more complex and is developing cavities and passages vital for circulating spinal fluid.  Face is becoming more defined with the lenses of the eyes and middle part of the ear forming.  Tiny arms, legs, hands, and feet are also beginning to bud.
Symptoms:  bloating, headaches, slight cramping, very tired, sore boobs, nausea
Cravings:  Orange Juice
Recap of the Week:   Cramping is much better this week!  Definitely helps the worry level :)  Have been pretty nauseous but no more throwing up probably due to the sea bands I've been wearing every single day (and thanks to my sis & mom for that advice!).  Am DYING to tell people at work but I have resisted.  Got caught eating crackers during the middle of the week and was suspected but I didn't give in.  I've been talking to the bub this week and Taylor laughs at me :)  Did my first workout since i found out I was pregnant (was just scared i guess) - Pregnancy Yoga and it was wonderful!  Gonna try to keep that up a few days a week.

6 Weeks

Pregnancy Highlights

How Far Along:  6 Weeks
Size of Baby:  Pea (.25 inch, less than .04 oz)
Nicknames (Gma & Gpa W): Lil' Green Jeans (Captain Kangeroo)
Weight Gain:  Nothing Yet
Maternity Clothes:  Not yet but definitely bloating so thinking they would be nice!
Milestones:  Rapidly growing and will triple in size this week.  Basic facial features such as eyes and ears are becoming more developed and the neural groove will have closed by this time.  The tiny heart is starting to pump blood.  Along the midline, 40 tiny blocks of tissue are developing which will eventually become the backbone, ribs, and muscles of the back and sides.
Symptoms:  lower back pain, bloating, headaches, bad cramping, very tired, nausea (first time throwing up this week)
Cravings:  Orange Juice
Recap of the Week:   More worry :) Had really severe cramping this week which scared me to death.  Luckily, I also had my first prenatal appt this week and was able to ask about it.  The nurse was not worried about it at all... said it is normal uterus and ligament stretching.  She offered to do an early ultrasound but I decided not to b/c it isn't covered by my insurance plan and she really didn't seem at all worried.  Also did the financing and some lab work at this appt.  Called a couple days later and the nurse said the lab work all looked really good.  Scheduled another appt to hear the heartbeat on Sept. 20th.  CANNOT wait for that one!  Taylor is going to go to the next appt with me :)  Just took one additional pregnancy test this week and I think it's probably time to stop... the line isn't capable of getting any darker :)

5 Weeks

Pregnancy Highlights

How Far Along:  5 Weeks
Size of Baby:  AppleSeed (.13 inch, less than .04 oz)
Nicknames (Gma & Gpa W): Johnny (boy), Johnnie (Girl) [as in "Appleseed"]
Weight Gain:  Nothing Yet
Maternity Clothes:  Not yet but definitely bloating so thinking they would be nice!
Milestones:  Embryo is dividing into three layers of cells.  The top layer will eventually become the central nervous system:  the brain, spinal cord, spinal nerves, and backbone.  The middle layer will develop into the circulatory system and the bottom layer is where the lungs, intestines, thyroid and other major internal organs will develop.
Symptoms:  lower back pain, bloating, headaches, cramping (driving sis crazy with the cramping questions!)
Cravings:  Cranberry Juice
Recap of the Week:   Worrying and worrying some more. :)  Had Donna's b-day party this week so was able to tell the rest of Taylor's family!  Pregnancy is still a little unreal...  have taken a few more pregnancy tests to make sure the line is getting darker.  People laugh at me when i tell them this :)  Just want everything to be ok!!

4 Weeks

Symptoms:  Very first symptoms are lower back pain, bloating, and headaches.
Cravings:  Cranberry Juice
Recap of the Week:  This was the week of telling the first group of family/friends the good news.  And Taylor's work... LOL.  We were going to keep it all a secret until I went to the doctor but that didn't work out too well... once Taylor told everyone at his work (the day we found out), i decided i wanted to tell people too!  There are still a few people who won't know until we hear the heartbeat but close family and friends definitely know already.  It's hard to keep the happy news contained!  Was 4 weeks, 2 days when we found out (see previous post for details).  Made my first prenatal appt on August 5th and anticipating it on August 22nd.

New Blog!!

So, I've been inspired by my Jenn to create a blog about pregnancy and life :)  I can't wait to share the weekly details with family and friends but prob won't be sending out a link to this blog until we hear the heartbeat (Sept 20th!).  [ya know how it is - the irrational fears!].  So this picture is from the first day we found out we were pregnant.  So proud of my first pregnancy picture!  Found out on Friday, August 5th, 2011.  I had taken a test on Monday, August 1st (the day AF was due) and got a BFN!  Still no AF by Friday so decided to take another FULLY expecting a BFN b/c the First Response tests are supposed to work 6 days before your missed AF (so I should've gotten a BFP on Monday [the day AF was due] if it was actually BFP).  FYI - don't rely on the "6 days before your missed period" business!  So, Tay woke up at 4:30 am to do something for work and i woke up too and needed to use the bathroom so decided to go ahead and take a test...I took the First Response test first (the pink one) and saw two lines!  Took the test into our office and asked Tay "Do you see two lines?!?  I then immediately took the Clear Blue Easy so I could see the digital "Pregnant" to remove any doubt.  We were both SO excited & I could barely force myself to work on Friday :)  Certainly got no more sleep that morning!  Can't wait for all the wonderful days to come and can't wait to meet our much-anticipated and already SO loved baby!

Background:  We decided early in 2011 that we would try to have a baby this year.  I stopped birth control in May and wanted to get it out of my system for the recommended 3 months.  We had one moment in June where it was possible we could've been pregnant but didn't really try until July.  July was the month!  Probably got pregnant around July 18th (estimated ovulation day).  July was super crazy though and i definitely thought we were out b/c i had two days of heavy bleeding right around ovulation time (that has never happened before).  Held some hope after mom tells me the same thing happened to her when she was pregnant with my sister.  But still definitely wasn't expecting it!

I'm planning to update this blog with each week of pregnancy and will be filling in the past weeks also (I'm currently 7 weeks preg but want to add pics and info for weeks 4-6 too)!

BFN:  Big Fat Negative
